Who You Gonna Call? by WinkGuy1 Who You Gonna Call? by WinkGuy1
I love the Ghostbusters, both movies and the 80's cartoon, The Real Ghostbusters... I wondered why it was called "The Real" Ghostbusters... Wondered if the movies were actually based on a comic but the cartoon creators believed they had gotten it wrong... Actually, that's not the case... it did start with the movie. But then, another cartoon came out and called itself Ghostbusters to cash in on the popularity of the name... This cartoon had nothing to do with Egon Spengler, Peter Venkman, Raymond "Ray" Stantz, Winston Veddemore, Janine Melnitz, Dana Barett or even Slimer... So, when the official cartoon came, they called it "The Real Ghostbusters"...

One thing sorta bugged me as a kid... why did they change the hair colours... well, it was just to avoid confusion between the characters since they were very much simplified and the original actors almost all had the same hair colour or pretty darn close.

So, early last year, I was watching the two movies at work and thought... wouldn't it be cool if they made another cartoon that was even closer to the original movies? Like a cross between the movies and the cartoon. So, I started drawing my version of those characters... trying to remain as faithful as possible to the movies(while mixing Harold Ramis' Egon with the cartoon version, I thought his cartoon hair was kinda cool... I had no reference for the cartoon versions though)... I ended up drawing the characters twice... One, well, I didn't use any reference for the first Egon since I was going for a mix between TV and movies.

And then, I drew the characters based on the first movie and all second sketches are based on the second movie.

Well... almost all of the characters... I drew Louis Tully(Rick Moranis) from the first movie... I'm not sure if he was in the second movie at the moment... I just drew him once anyway.

So, here are Louis, Egon, Ray, Peter and Winston, Janine and the Ghostbusters(I) Logo.

Enjoy,

~Guy H.L.

I think that The Ghostbusters are © property of Sony Pictures since that's where their official website is there.

Hey bud I hate too burst your bubble but in the 70's their was a showed The ghostbuster it was a live action show that but it was short live about only like 15 episodes hannah barbera company bought the rights to the show then when the movie came out they desided to remake that show but they made it with the ghostbuster's kid. Then the ghoterbusters movie (we love) Hannah Had the rights to call their show the ghost busters and you know the rest

Yeah, these are wonderful. I like the first Ray, the second is a little too pudgy - guess you were leaning towards the RGB Ray more on that one? I like the last Venkman. The first looks too depressed, but otherwise they seem interchangeable as if he is merely in two different moods, yet is the same character.

Thank you :)

Actually, I started drawing these while watching Ghostbusters 1 and 2... I noticed Dan Aykroyd had gotten a little chubbier in the second movie. Maybe not as much, it's been awhile, not sure... Maybe I was channeling his cartoon counterpart... Or maybe I was just thinking of how chubbier Dan is today and he was the "chubbier" Ghostbuster. Oh well, I'm just rambling now. Maybe I should've just thinned out his neck a bit. Thanks for the comments.

Yeah, I prefer the second Venkman as well since he does look down a lot in my first attempt.

Actually, if you'll notice. Not only the second versions reflect them in the second movie mostly... All the first ones look so serious. I wanted to cheer them up a little with the second versions. I hope this answered your question.

Oh, yeah, thanks. Great artwork you have here! I'm not sure which Egon I like more - the first is great, but the second looks like the actor more. Janine - wasn't much of a fan of the later cartoon version or the GB2 version, so oh well. Winston is great. The first looks like the actor.

You're welcome and thanks... I know what you mean about Egon. :)

I forgot that Winston wasn't serious-looking in the first version unlike the other Ghostbusters. I did the opposite with him.

I love ghostbusters! (Who doesn't?) Your versions are really good, I like them more than the cartoon. They have a good balance between realism and cartoon.
